Solar Freakin’ Ripoff

If you’ve seen the original “Solar Freakin’ Roadways” video on Youtube should watch this, especially if you’re considering donating to the cause. It’s a reality check. Thanks to Misha for pointing it out.

Okay. So the Solar Freakin’ Roadway video has been making the rounds for a while now, on Facebook and Twitter and such. I watched it and I got a good chuckle out of it. It’s in the style of videos by Cracked.Com and CollegeHumor.com, and I assumed that it was a parody of “green technology”.

Honestly, it never occurred to me that it wasn’t a joke, since the technology involved doesn’t exist, would cost more money than there is in the world if it did exist, and would make driving insanely dangerous if someone was actually crazy enough to do it.

Today I found out that those jokers have raised nearly two million dollars.

I’m stunned.  It’s like finding out that someone was using clips from Ghostbusters to create a company to build proton packs and had raised two million dollars.  I mean, okay, I can understand seeing a…

A Word About Words – Stephen Fry

Great post with a fantastic video. Please visit Jenni at Unload and Unwind to let her know how much you enjoyed it!

stephen-fry-incuriosity-56200 I came across this first thing this morning when taking a quick look at Facebook. My son had put this up on his page, mentioning having watched it in a lecture regarding language of the ‘proper’ use thereof and I found it both utterly hilarious as well as more than a little on the money.  So it seems we have a winner for the lead spot that will take us into the Weekend Funny Challenge while at the same time making more than just one point regarding the written word and all its possibilities in a way that only Stephen Fry could manage.  Don’t forget that the Weekend Challenge starts midnight tonight EST – so have your quirks, stories and laughs all lined up so we can all see just What Makes You Laugh.

First Robin

My friend Hanna wrote a wonderful little poem in celebration of spring. She’s new to WordPress, so please go and say hi, and check out her blog!

hannaplummer's avatarhannaplummer

Robin, robin,
Why are you here?
The sun is out,
The sky is clear.

Robin, robin,
Why are you here?
The temps are cold,
The snow is near.

Robin, robin,
Why are you here?
You’ll freeze your
Little wings, I fear.

Happy spring, everyone. Saw my first robin today. Didn’t have my camera to take a picture. And I just wondered what he thought of our Canadian spring. First official day has been and gone, and we’re still hovering below zero with snow coming our way.

Welcome to Back Hair Advocate!

Hey! A new lit mag is looking for humorous submissions! Go check it out! Bring your funny bone – and your humerus too!

ianstarttoday's avatarBack Hair Advocate

Hi there,

Back Hair Advocate is a new humor (web) lit mag. It was started after our team of editors (there is no team) realized that there are a dearth of opportunities for writing funny out there.

Back Hair Advocate would like to fill that dearth with your brilliance. We are looking for poems, flash fiction, cartoons, nonfiction pieces and short stories. All of them must have two things in common: they have to be funny and well-written.

The individual behind this new lit mag is IanStarttoday. His work is forthcoming or has been published in a number of fine publications you probably haven’t heard of. They include Eunoia Review, Feathertale.com, Foliate Oak Lit Mag, Asinine Poetry, and Miracle E-zine. He also boasts rejections by many other publications that probably didn’t deserve to feature his genius anyway. :)

He is not above utilizing smiley faces to express emotions and feelings.

So…
