One-Liner Wednesday – A favour?

Hi, my friends!

I’m using today’s One-Liner Wednesday prompt to see if we can get pingbacks working again.

I received a reply from the Happiness Engineers to say they tried a pingback and it worked, so they can’t see a problem. Here’s the email:

Hello there,

Thank you for reaching out.

My message to WP: Is there any chance pingbacks will be working again soon?

I checked and can see that the pingback is working on your website. You can see a screenshot of a test of the pingback on your site here: https://d.pr/i/5Q8N1o

You can explain if there is a specific site that you are not receiving the pingbacks from and we can help check this for you.

(NOTE) The Pingbacks may not work if the site from which you are getting a pingback is set to Private. If their site is set to Private, it may not push any notification for the links you add to your blog as Pingbacks.

You need to let the site you getting the pingback be set to public.

So what I figured we can do (or you can do, rather, as a favour) is post your prompt post as usual with your regular (attempt to) ping back to this post.

IF YOUR PINGBACK DOESN’T SHOW UP IN THE COMMENTS, comment with your link and add to your comment “I tried a pingback on this post and it doesn’t work.”

If they’re still not working, I can send the Happiness Engineers a link to this post and they can see whose “specific site” it’s not working from.

If they’re working now, this was all for nothing and you can carry on.

Thanks in advance for your help!

If you would like to participate in this prompt, feel free to use the “One-Liner Wednesday” title in your post, and if you do, you can ping back here to help your blog get more exposure. To execute a pingback, just copy the URL in the address bar on this post, and paste it somewhere in the body of your post. Your link will show up in the comments below. Please ensure that the One-Liner Wednesday you’re pinging back to is this week’s! Otherwise, no one will likely see it but me.

NOTE: Pingbacks only work from WordPress sites. If you’re self-hosted or are participating from another host, like Blogger, please leave a link to your post in the comments below.

As with Stream of Consciousness Saturday (SoCS), if you see a pingback from someone else in my comment section, click and have a read. It’s bound to be short and sweet.

Unlike SoCS, this is not a prompt so there’s no need to stick to the same “theme.”

The rules that I’ve made for myself (but don’t always follow) for “One-Liner Wednesday” are:

1. Make it one sentence.

2. Try to make it either funny or inspirational.

3. Use our unique tag #1linerWeds.

4. Add our lovely badge to your post for extra exposure!

5. Have fun!

Pingbacks still not working

Pingbacks still seem to be hit and miss today. If you participated in One-Liner Wednesday today, make sure to comment with your link.

Just a quick note to let you know that the pingbacks are hit and miss today. Ones that should be working, aren’t.

If you participated in SoCS, make sure you check the prompt post and see if your pingback showed up. Here’s a handy link: https://lindaghill.com/2019/04/26/the-friday-reminder-and-prompt-for-socs-april-27-19/

Thanks!

Pingbacks aren’t working – again

My last experience with pingbacks not working gave me enough insight to figure out what’s going on this time.

Some of the pingbacks on One-Liner Wednesday worked, and some didn’t. It turns out that this time, if you have a .wordpress.com site–a free site that is–your pingbacks won’t work, at least when you’re trying to link to a custom site like mine. If you have a custom site, they work. Last time it was the other way around.

I hate to have to ask you again, but please, if you participate in one of my prompts, check to make sure your link is in my comment section after you’ve posted. This goes for yesterday’s One-Liner Wednesday, and based on the last WP breakdown of pingbacks, likely anything you link to for the next week. I’ll leave a reminder on the Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Quick update on the Pingback issue

I just talked to someone at WordPress support, and they said the problem only seems to be affecting custom sites. That means, if you have .wordpress in your site’s address, you shouldn’t be affected. If you pay for your site and you don’t have a .wordpress.com site, and your pingbacks don’t work, please let support know.

Proof that they’re doing something: I got a pingback tonight. Problem was, it was from Margret’s post here:

https://writingandreadingashobbies.wordpress.com/2016/04/13/fortune-cookie/

but the link pinged back to here:

https://lindaghill.com/2013/04/21/how-comments-can-hurt/ – a post of mine from three years ago.

Weird. Hopefully things will be back to normal soon.

Have a good night all!

Experiencing Problems With Pingbacks On Your WordPress Blog? Then Please Read This.

It’s more widespread than I thought. Please check first if your posts allow pingbacks before you complain to WordPress. Here’s how:

Thank you to Chris, The Story Reading Ape, for the visual:  https://thestoryreadingapeblog.com/2016/04/13/experiencing-problems-with-pingbacks-on-your-wordpress-blog-then-please-read-this/
If you’ve checked the above settings and your pingbacks still aren’t working, please let WordPress know.
Remember – it might only be your incoming pingbacks. If you’re expecting some, like I do with my prompts, you’ll know. If you’re not expecting any, ask a friend to try linking to one of your posts to see if you get a notification. If I get time later, I’ll help you. Please let me know in the comments.
