What Day is it Anyway? Thursday, August 27th, 2020

My day today so far–11:53am

I have failed. I have failed in my resolve and thus, as a human being.

Okay, maybe it’s not quite that dire.

Let me back up a bit.

Thursday (that’s today, right?) is shopping day. Despite best-laid plans to get up and be at the grocery store when they opened at 8:00 I didn’t wake up until my son screamed at me that it was time to go shopping now, Mom, at 9:00.

So I quickly dressed and jumped in the car.

Here’s my excuse: I’m in the ice cream aisle, it’s, like 9:40, and I haven’t had coffee yet. AN UNCAFFEINATED BRAIN CANNOT FUNCTION IN THE ICE CREAM AISLE!

So I did it. Even though I still have half a container of green tea Haagen-Dasz in the freezer at home, I bought a container of the chocolate and peanut butter one.

I have failed.

And damn it, I refuse to be sorry.

Why I’m writing this post:

Because if you’re like me and stuck at home already, or if you’re going to be like me soon, the days of the week are hell to keep track of. We have a wonderful community here on WordPress and all over the Internet as well, and I’m sure many people are feeling nervous and/or isolated. I want to make sure every one of us has somewhere to congregate and someone to talk to.

I want everyone to know that you can start discussions with each other in the comments, and if you’d like to write your own “What Day is it Anyway?” post, you can link to this one. Hashtag #WDIIA.

  2. You didn’t fail! A fail would have been to leave the aisle without it! It looks amazing too! I must try it sometime!

  4. I make my own ice cream and one of my family favorites is peanut butter chocolate chip so… you are forgiven (by The Chocolate Lady)!

  6. Caffeine before all else because the world is safer that way. Eat the ice cream. No remorse.

Ps. Finished the Magician’s Curse. A really fun read with a plot that races along and compelling characters. Loved the ghost aunt (Agnes? – how quickly my Covid brain forgets) and the main character Herman. I may never name a character the same way again, thanks to that!

  7. I don’t think that’s a failure. I think the only reason I haven’t wiped out the ice cream aisle has been the fact that it’s been over 90°f (32°c) most of this summer and the ice cream would be milk by the time I got it home.

  9. Enjoy your failures, they don’t happen that often.

  10. I can so relate! I just wrote a letter on my other blog talking about this very thing, I feel like a failure too, no willpower, no idea what to do with my website, etc. besides feeling like a total fraud because I fell off the keto wagon. I’ll figure out something, but in the meantime, enjoy the small pleasures while you can! Who knows what the future holds?

  13. I can relate. I bought a large package of small packets of potato chips. A guilty pleasure, but who can blame us? This whole “thing” is getting old, especially with T, news, riots, and gun violence. It’s a way of dealing with the stress of it all.

  14. I have to drive my son to work at 5:15 so I hit the grocery store on my way home today. No people there, but also sometimes no groceries as they are stocking many of the aisles. I, too, bought some ice cream even though we have 9 pints already – mostly keto friendly.

  15. 💝💐🤗I have been in “lockdown” since March, being over 60 and two bouts with swine flu, my family are running the gauntlet by going to work, and I stay at home. Lots of guilt, anger and all the stages one goes through when change happens, but the sun comes every morning bringing a new day nd a new way. You are an inspiration. Thank you.

  17. Many’s the time my willpower gave up in the ice cream aisle but the Green Tea one sounds a bit strange. Presumably that’s why there’s still half a tub left? Anyway you can never have too much ice cream whatever the flavour.
