Fiona: Did you get into ‘n accident too?

Phil: Yeah. Smashed up my car AND my arm. (points to left arm in a sling) I’m just waiting for the insurance company to settle.

Phil (and Fiona)

Phil sits at the window. Fiona takes the seat beside him.

Fiona: Man is it a chilly one out there.

Phil: (glances at her briefly) It is.

Fiona: You could catch the flu on this bus faster ‘n you can say Jack Frost.

Phil: That’s true.

Fiona: Better ‘n drivin’ a car though.

Phil: (turns to her) Why do you say that?

Fiona: I had a car once. Had a bad accident ‘n tore up my leg somethin’ fierce. Even my hip ain’t never bin the same since.

Phil: Hmph.

Fiona: Can barely walk now.

Phil: Huh.

Fiona: Yep, we’re lucky we don’t drive no cars.

Phil: The flu can be pretty bad too.

Fiona: (thinks for a moment) At least you’s got ’bout a week to say goodbye to y’ur loved ones though. Car accident (snaps fingers) jes like that. Over. Done for.

Phil: (smiles ruefully) Thank you for that.

Fiona: You talkin’ to me?

Justin: Yeah. I’ve seen you somewhere before.

Fiona: No kiddin’.

Justin: Don’t you work at the mall or something?

Fiona: Who me? Nah. I’ve been on disability for two years. Had a car accident.

Justin: That’s terrible. Do you want to go for a coffee?

Fiona: (pauses for a moment) Are you joking? I’m old enough to be your mother.

Justin: Yeah, and?

Fiona: Okay then. But I’ve gotta warn ya, I think I’m comin’ down with a cold. That scares some people off.

Justin: I don’t mind.

50. Scenes from the Second Seat on the Right

Friday, October 20th, 2:00pm
Fiona (and Felix)

Fiona sits at the window. Felix takes the seat behind her.

Fiona: (blows nose) Oh, that cold out there sure makes the nose run.

Felix: (nods and turns his head part-way around) Mmm…

Fiona: I was talkin’ to a lady out at the bus stop. She wasn’t even wearing a coat!

Felix pulls a bottle of hand sanitizer out of his pocket and cleans his hands.

Fiona: I s’pose there’s people like that who just don’t feel the cold. Wonder that they don’t catch something though.

Felix: (turns part-way around) It is.

Fiona: Hey, are you one of them COD people or whatever it is?

Felix: OCD. Like Howie Mandel.

Fiona: You know, you can catch a cold just by sitting ten feet away from someone? We’re sitting closer then that. (smiles)

Felix gets off the bus.
