One-Liner Wednesday & #JusJoJan25 the 22nd – I’ll try

It’s my birthday, so I’m going to try to take a break from everything. We’ll see how long that lasts.

Oh, and don’t forget it’s the last day to get Rocked for free.

If you would like to participate in this prompt, feel free to use the “One-Liner Wednesday” title in your post, and if you do, you can ping back here to help your blog get more exposure.

Here are the simple JusJoJan Rules:

1. Just Jot It January starts January 1st, but it’s never too late to join in! Here, we run on the honour system; the “jot it” part of JusJoJan means that anything you jot down, anywhere (it doesn’t have to be a post, it can even be a grocery list), counts as a “jot.” If it makes it to your blog that day, great! If it waits a week to get from a sticky note to your screen, no problem!

2. I’ll post prompts at 2am my time (GMT -5). The prompt will be the word in quotation marks in the title of my 2am post. You don’t have to follow the prompt every day, but that will be where you leave your link for others to see. You’ll get a prompt for every day except Wednesday, when the prompt is simply my One-Liner Wednesday and on Saturday, when your prompt will be the Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS, which will appear at about 9:30am Friday. Each prompt post will include the rules.

2 a) The rules that I’ve made for myself (but don’t always follow) for “One-Liner Wednesday” are:

1. Make it one sentence.

2. Try to make it either funny or inspirational.

3. Use our unique tag #1linerWeds.

4. Add our lovely badge to your post for extra exposure!

5. Have fun!

Badge by Laura @ riddlefromthemiddle.com

3. Please ping back or link to the daily prompt. To ping back, just copy the URL from the daily prompt post, and paste it anywhere in your post. Check to make sure your link shows up where you want it to, and go back occasionally to see other bloggers’ entries – the more you visit others, the more they’ll visit you! Note: A) The newest pingbacks will be at the top of the comments section. B) Ping backs only work if you’re blogging on WordPress. Everyone else must paste a link manually.

4. Tag your post JusJoJan25 and/or #JusJoJan25.

5. Write anything! Any length will do! It can even be a photo or a drawing – you’re going to title it, right? There’s your jot!

6. If your post is NSFW, do not ping back. Please leave your link in the comments with a warning.

7. If you’d like to, use the JusJoJan badge so that others can find your post more easily.

8. Have fun!

JusJoJan25 the 17th – News and announcements

This post is part of Just Jot it January, and there’s no prompt word! Today is a free-for-all, whatever-you-want-to-write day. Find the post to link your post to here!

First, my most pressing news.

My laptop is fixed! For the time being.

I took it to Best Buy and found out the noise coming from it can’t be the hard drive because its an SSD and there are no moving parts inside.

Then I got the bad news—the fan, which is making the noise—can’t be replaced.

So the nice Geek (of Geek Squad fame) took my dear laptop to the back, took it apart, and blew air on the fan to clean the dust out.

And voila! No more horrible noise! For now at least.

I did some research on SSD hard drives though, and it seems when they die, it’s really hard to get data off of them. So I’m going to back up my stuff religiously from now on!

In announcements:

First off, I want to give everyone a heads-up that the second “Prompt Me” post is coming tomorrow, Saturday January 18th, at 10am EST. So make sure you get here early if you want to provide a prompt for one of the remaining ten (yes! only ten!) slots.

I’ll give first dibs to people who didn’t get in with their prompt word in the first half of the month, so if I’ve already used your word this year, please wait until it’s been at least 24 hours before you come back with a second one.

And finally, in book news, Rocked: A Romantic Comedy is free!

I’ll leave it that way through my birthday next week, then the price will go back up to $4.99. So if you don’t already have it, get it now!

Get it at the following retailers:

And that’s it for this premier free-for-all no-prompt prompt post.

Cheers with morning coffee!

JusJoJan25 the 9th – Shy?

This post is part of Just Jot it January, and the prompt word, “shy,” comes to us courtesy of Di. Check out her blog here!

I don’t think I’ve been shy since I was a child. I do remember being shy, but at some point I must have figured out that if I didn’t stand up for myself, I wasn’t going to get what I wanted.

Figure skating helped a fair bit too—yes, I was terrified to get out there on the ice and skate in front of people when I was doing a test, a competition, or a show, but I had no choice. I got over it.

Still don’t ask me to speak in public. My mouth won’t work properly.

So now, I’m quite vocal when I’m advocating for my kids. I hate conflict, but I’m not shy if it’s important.

But advocating for myself when it comes to selling my books?

Ugh.

I don’t know if it’s shyness as much as it is imposter syndrome or just not wanting to put anyone out, but yeah. After eight years of publishing, I still have a problem with it.

Unless I have a free book on offer.

(See how I slipped that in there?)

This rambling post is part of Just Jot it January. Want to join in? Just click here to get to the prompt and drop your link. It’s fun!

Thanks again to Di for the prompt!

Sale ends tomorrow!

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up that the sale on my entire “Once a Week at Woody’s” series ends tomorrow.

Saddled, currently free, will go up to 99¢ on Tuesday, then $2.99 next week. The rest of the series is going up a dollar, so grab them now!

Here’s the latest review on Amazon for Saddled from an Amazon Customer.

5 stars – A romantic comedy turned scorcher!

I picked this book at random knowing nothing about the author, just that it was a romantic comedy. I always pick my books that way because a lot of times I am pleasantly surprised and find great books I may not have otherwise read. This is one of those instances!

If I had read what the book was about I would have probably learned that one of the main characters was a stripper, part time. However I soon found out that was the case but was surprised to find it was the male character! The story held a very interesting take from this particular stripper’s point of view. And while the story got extremely heated, as in sizzling, the script was a very well written love story!

The two main characters are extremely charismatic and you can’t help but fall in love with them on this journey! While it does get VERY intimate, it’s not over done or vulgar.

They have strong workplace ethics, morals and humor. The office staff provide the drama and comedy! All in all I enjoyed this book and am glad I picked it!

Here are all the links to the books:

On Kindle US:

Nailed click here.

On Kindle everywhere else and Barnes & Noble, Apple, and Kobo (including Kobo Plus):

They’re all standalone books in the series, so you don’t have to read them all or in sequence to enjoy them.

Thanks so much, and happy reading!

A Twitchy Troika of Truffles

I’m totally twitchy today. Alex was home–he’s really sick. I hope it’s just a cold since he doesn’t have a fever, but he can’t stop coughing. He’s in bed trying to sleep now and he’s still at it. I won’t bother even trying to get him up to catch the school troika … I mean the school bus tomorrow.

So, why am I twitchy? There were SO many awesome things I was going to accomplish this week! I have a deal going on on Kobo … here’s a screen shot:

and here’s the link if you want to pick up my book for free: https://www.kobo.com/ca/en/p/free-ebooks

I was planning to advertise this every which way ’til Sunday. Literally–the deal’s on until Sunday. But I have Alex at home.

Oh, and that appointment I had to get my mother’s staples out of her head this morning? Dragged her all the way to the doctor’s office and found out the retirement home had taken them out a week ago. So we went there for nothing.

Why, oh why can’t anything go smoothly this year?

Because seriously, if they would, I’d stop complaining in your ears. :/

Where are the truffles? I need chocolate!

I also need suggestions for “U” words for tomorrow’s illegal A-Z post. One word per person, please, and keep it clean. Note that the oldest comments are at the bottom.

Thank you to today’s accomplices, whose links you’ll find under the words “twitchy,” “troika,” and “truffles.”

Or, you can just enter the draw here. The contest is open to mailing addresses in the United States and Canada only.

#Read “The Magician’s Curse” for #Free

Are you a member of NetGalley? My paranormal romance novel, The Magician’s Curse, is available for the month of April to all members.

The Magician’s Curse begins the story of Stephen Dagmar, stage magician and cambion–descendant of an incubus–and his assistant, Herman Anderson. Here’s the blurb:

When Herman Anderson leaves home to make a better life for herself, she doesn’t expect to meet a tall, dark stranger with whom she’ll fall hopelessly in love.

Charming and mysterious, Stephen Dagmar is a stage magician seeking an assistant. The moment he sets eyes on Herman, he knows she’s the one. He brings her home to his Victorian mansion where they embark upon an extravagant romance. Yet a shadow hangs over their love. Will the curse on his family end Stephen and Herman’s happily ever after, before it really begins?

Amidst lace and leather, innocence and debauchery, The Magician’s Curse begins the Gothic tale of The Great Dagmaru. Magic and romance await.

The appearance on NetGalley of The Magician’s Curse, Book One of “The Great Dagmaru” series, is designed to lead up to the release of the second book, The Magician’s Blood. This is your chance to read (and review) the first book for free!

If you’re not familiar with NetGalley, here’s how they describe their service:

NetGalley’s tagline is “We help books succeed,” and the first thing you’ll read on their home page is “We help readers of influence discover and recommend new books to their audiences.” If you like to review books, NetGalley will grant your requests to read some of your favourite authors before their books come out. They also stock already-published works, such as mine. It’s free to sign up!

Random Update on My Week

Day 5 is almost in the bag and we’re all still alive.

It’s been an interesting week. I managed to write and submit a new short story to my publisher (I can’t believe I can actually say “my publisher”!) yesterday. Transmundane Press’s next release will be an anthology themed on dreams. I’m happy with what I’ve written–hope they will be too. Wish me luck.

Speaking of luck, it’s lucky St. Patrick’s Day tomorrow. If you’re interested in reading the stories that have kept me busy editing for the last three weeks, you can download the e-book, Shamrocks, Shillelaghs & Shenanigans for free at your favourite e-book retailer. C’mon. With a cover like this, I know you’re curious:

You can find all the links at the bottom of this post.

In other news, as I was driving the other day, annoyed that it was taking so long to get to my destination, I started to wonder if I’m getting spoiled by fiction. Okay, I know that doesn’t make much sense on the surface, but hear me out.

When I write scenes, if I want my characters to go from one exciting scenario to the next, I just put them there. Because let’s face it, most of the time traveling is boring. There’s a reason kids ask “are we there yet?” I spend so much time in the world of fiction, whether I’m reading it, writing it, or editing it, that it has become more the norm than what’s normal.

I really need to get out more, don’t you think?

Anyhoo, that’s my short update. Back to work.

Here are the links to the FREE book of sexy short stories.

Enjoy!
