EDDD 24 – All I Want – Giving

For the seventh and final edition of “All I Want,” I decided to save the best for last. Giving, after all, is what the season is all about. Interesting how circumstance would have me posting this on Christmas Eve, instead of Sunday.

Christmas Eve is special to many people. For myself, it’s a time to finish wrapping presents, to stuff stockings, and to enjoy the anticipation of my children as they climb off to bed with thoughts of what they will wake to in the morning. A little glass of Baileys always goes down well, also. 🙂

But if I could give anything at all to the ones I love, it would be to give my children perfect health. To Chris I would give complete access to that brilliant mind of his – to unlock it from the constraints that autism places on his abilities to process his thoughts. And to Alex I would give the gift of music – a revelation to his deaf ears; the chance to fill his taste buds with the wonder of flavours, where now he eats through a tube; and finally I would give him a perfect heart, to replace the one he was born with, that beats precariously in his chest.

So, finally, I ask you, my readers. If you could give anything at all to the ones you love, what would it be? Dream big, my friends.

Happy Christmas Eve.

  2. I do a regular post called “Freshly impressed” and I wondered if you would let me feature this post on it. It is such a touching post.

  3. I would give the Garden Gnome back the last few years minus the hurts and stresses we have both experienced due to our depression and his anxiety. But then if I did, we probably wouldn’t have grown as close as we have or as strong. 🙂

    • It’s hard to say that any experience is completely bad, because there are extenuating circumstances to everything, no matter how small. You have a very good point there, Sue. Thanks for sharing. 🙂

  4. Very beautiful wishes! I think if I were wishing big—instead of the three candles we lit at dinner for my dad, brother, and sister—they would have been sitting at the table with us.

    • It’s a tough time of year when there are those we miss being with. I’m sure your memories keep your family alive in your heart.

Thanks very much for your comment, and for sharing, April. Merry Christmas. 🙂

  7. I, too, have a chronically ill daughter, to whom I wish I could give perfect health. Often I wish I could just turn back time for her, for all of us, like there was some point in which her health got lost.
But…If I could give anything to everyone I love, I think I would choose peace. Peace in the heart. Peace of mind.

  8. Wow. As everyone has stated, those are beautiful wishes. If I had the gift of giving, I think I’d give you yours. Thanks for sharing so much of yourself. You have a beautiful life and story to share and have shown over and over to be a very beautiful person.

That or show Megan Fox what it is to defy gravity 😉

  10. Wow. This was beautiful, so heartfelt. All we wish for our children is really health and happiness. If I had a wish I’d wish my young friend had more luck and actually survived his leukemia, failing that I wish he’d not suffered so much.
Hope you and your children have a wonderful Christmas and a great New Year.

    • It really is all we can wish for, isn’t it? You’ve been through so much of late, and I really do feel for you.

I hope you and your family have a peaceful Christmas as well, Andrea, and here’s to a much better New Year.

  12. Very touching. Your post makes me realize how lucky we are that my daughter’s heart did not have long-lasting effects on her body and that we were able to find a donor heart so quickly. She was a tube feeder, but only for a few months. I guess I would give others this amazing miraculous gift of a life who need it most – those others suffering and dying on the organ list. It is sad to know we must lose one to do it, but at least that life lost can be a life found for many others. Thanks for sharing and Merry Christmas!

  15. Those are beautiful gifts. Merry Christmas. I’m not sure what I would give to the people I love. Comfort and not having to worry about debt, bills, and things going wrong sounds rather silly.

  16. Your gift is so meaningful and well chosen… I struggle to match it for quality. I suppose… if I could give ANYTHING to the people I love it would be the ability to understand each other as we all intend to.
Merry Christmas, by the way 🙂
