Back when I was in my late twenties, I lived in an apartment and supported myself by working in various offices for an agency.
I remember my agency called me late one afternoon and asked me to be at a new job first thing the next morning, as they needed someone desperately.
But when I woke up the next morning, I was so sick, I couldn’t even get out of bed to call them to tell them I couldn’t make it.
They didn’t call me again—I’d been effectively fired for not showing up on the first day.
Making me the tempest temp there ever was.
*ba-dum-tss!*

LOVE IT! I worked temp gigs for years – sometimes full time, sometimes as a side hustle, etc., – My ‘tempest temp’ assignment, ever?? Called to report to a 4-6 week, 5 days a week, 8 hours a day, data entry temp job – for a small collection company – arrived – was shown the stack of ‘paper’ to be entered digitally into a system (overview of system) and worked that day, worked until it was time for me to take my lunch break and I poked my head in and said, “Okay – the stack you gave me is all entered – going to lunch – but will need the next stack to do when I get back from lunch” –
“You’re done???? Already??? Let me check…..”
She spot checked for about 20 minutes – just pulling random paperwork from the done ‘pile’ and searching in their digital system – –
“Um, that was all of them – I can’t believe you got it all done! We had a temp in here for two weeks, working that same stack!”
Sigh – let go after less than 11 hours of ‘paid time’ and when I called in to say, “available for new assignment’ – they made me cool my heels for over a WEEK, while they verified I had really done the ‘job requested’ – sigh – that was the day I started really questioning the whole “temp gig’ on both sides of the transaction – it became rather a “heads we win, tails you lose’ operation – – – LOL
thus? I became a Freelancer!! 😀

I did, when I woke up, and I apologized profusely. They just never called me for another job.

The universe took care of you. In reality the temp company was a front for the mob and you would have inadvertently been involved with money laundering. Thank goodness your guardian angel took care if it. (LOL)

I saw what you did there! Good for you, though. Sounds like it would have been a not-so-great gig.
