The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS Oct. 15/16

It’s Friday once again, and time for your Stream of Consciousness Saturday prompt. The fall weather is starting to settle in, the trees are changing colour, and there’s a fresh feeling in the air. I’m not sure if my optimism is real, or if it’s a mixture of denial that winter is coming and nervousness about never completing all the things I need to do in time, but whichever, I’ll take it. In other news, here’s your prompt:

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “screen.” Use it any way you’d like. Enjoy!

After you’ve written your Saturday post tomorrow, please link it here at this week’s prompt page and check to make sure it’s here in the comments so others can find it and see your awesome Stream of Consciousness post. Anyone can join in!

To make your post more visible, use our new SoCS badge! Just paste it in your Saturday post so people browsing the reader will immediately know your post is stream of consciousness and/or pin it as a widget to your site to show you’re a participant. Wear it with pride!!

Here are the rules:

1. Your post must be stream of consciousness writing, meaning no editing, (typos can be fixed) and minimal planning on what you’re going to write.

2. Your post can be as long or as short as you want it to be. One sentence – one thousand words. Fact, fiction, poetry – it doesn’t matter. Just let the words carry you along until you’re ready to stop.

3. There will be a prompt every week. I will post the prompt here on my blog on Friday, along with a reminder for you to join in. The prompt will be one random thing, but it will not be a subject. For instance, I will not say “Write about dogs”; the prompt will be more like, “Make your first sentence a question,” “Begin with the word ‘The’,” or simply a single word to get your started.

4. Ping back! It’s important, so that I and other people can come and read your post! For example, in your post you can write “This post is part of SoCS:” and then copy and paste the URL found in your address bar at the top of this post into yours.  Your link will show up in my comments for everyone to see. The most recent pingbacks will be found at the top. NOTE: Pingbacks only work from WordPress sites. If you’re self-hosted or are participating from another host, such as Blogger, please leave a link to your post in the comments below.

5. Read at least one other person’s blog who has linked back their post. Even better, read everyone’s! If you’re the first person to link back, you can check back later, or go to the previous week, by following my category, “Stream of Consciousness Saturday,” which you’ll find right below the “Like” button on my post.

6. Copy and paste the rules (if you’d like to) in your post. The more people who join in, the more new bloggers you’ll meet and the bigger your community will get!

7. As a suggestion, tag your post “SoCS” and/or “#SoCS” for more exposure and more views.

8. Have fun!

#ThursdayDoors – My Neighbourhood

I’ve always been a little fascinated with this little house around the corner from where I live. As I walked past it a few weeks back, I decided to take a picture.

It’s not just the narrow doors that intrigue me, it’s the iron bars on the upper windows and the lace curtains in the lower ones that really bring the whole thing together, which sparks my imagination.

Here’s a closeup of the lovely doors.

I live in a decidedly old part of town. Many Loyalists settled here in the 1850s, and quite a few of the houses from that era still stand. Here’s one that’s a bit different.

I’ll have to go back after the leaves fall to get a picture of it all the way to the top.

Here’s the door, in all its yellow splendour.

I’ve missed participating in this prompt. It’s good to be back. Thank you to Norm Frampton, our host. You can find him here https://miscellaneousmusingsofamiddleagedmind.wordpress.com/2016/10/13/thursday-doors-october-13-2016/ Why don’t you join in too? 🙂

One-Liner Wednesday – I Thought We Were Roommates!

I got such a kick out of this, and it’s stayed with me so long, that I had to share it with all of you. You’re welcome.

_____________________________________________________________________________

Anyone who would like to participate, feel free to use the “One-Liner Wednesday” title in your post, and if you do,
you can ping back here to help your blog get more exposure. To execute a ping back, just copy the URL in the address bar on this post, and paste it somewhere in the body of your post. Your link will show up in the comments below. Please ensure that the One-Liner Wednesday you’re pinging back to is this week’s! Otherwise, no one will likely see it but me.

NOTE: Pingbacks only work from WordPress sites. If you’re self-hosted or are participating from another host, like Blogger, please leave a link to your post in the comments below.

As with Stream of Consciousness Saturday (SoCS), if you see a ping back from someone else in my comment section, click and have a read. It’s bound to be short and sweet.

Unlike SoCS, this is not a prompt so there’s no need to stick to the same “theme.”

The rules that I’ve made for myself (but don’t always follow) for “One-Liner Wednesday” are:

1. Make it one sentence.

2. Try to make it either funny or inspirational.

3. Use our unique tag #1linerWeds.

4. Add our very cool badge to your post for extra exposure!

5. Have fun!

#SoCS – Jagged

It’s strange, the edge upon which we exist here on earth. Half-way between life and death, birth and life. Full of ups and downs, we tip this way and that. Joy and sorrow, anxiousness and contentment. If we’re lucky enough to find a balance, we can make it through without much fuss.

I’ve been teetering today. Thrown off balance by the news of a friend’s passing. We, many of us, knew him well. He saw the joy in life through most of what he went through. He was always there with his own brand of encouragement and support. His friend contacted me through my comments on Facebook, to say that he talked about this world here in blogland often. That blogging had become his life.

Our friend’s name is Paul Curran. I like to think of him looking down on us, knowing we’re thinking of him, as he knows we have before. And that, to coin his favourite interjection, he’s pointing down and saying “Ha! I actually made an impression.”

You certainly did, Paul. And a good one at that.

One-Liner Wednesday – The Temptation of a Masochist

Blunt Hair Studio, Kingston

Blunt Hair Studio, Kingston

I was sorely tempted to go into Blunt Hair Studio last weekend, just to see if they’d say, “Holy shit, you went out in public looking like that? For God’s sake sit down and let us do something with your hair!”

#SoCS – Awkward

Don’t you hate awkward exchanges between yourself and a stranger? They talk to you and the conversation finishes but you’re not sure how to walk away? I’ve had a couple of those this weekend. It’s been an exhausting one, mentally and emotionally. I’ve cried, I’ve laughed, I’ve learned, I’ve read my work out loud (something I wasn’t sure I’d ever be able to do), and I’ve met some people who’ve inspired me. In all, I’d say it has been a good time. But now I’m about ready to shut down.

I had an awful conversation by text with my ex. If you know my pseudonym, you can find my rant on that blog. The rant helped, but the conversation helped to drain me. I think now I’ll go look for something to just zone out with. I’ll write more about my weekend later, if I have a chance.

Thanks again to Joey for hosting this week. Please, everyone, stand and applaud. She won’t think it’s awkward AT ALL. 😀

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS Oct. 1/16

Welcome to the Friday prompt for Saturday’s SoCS, I’m your guest host, Joey of Joeyfully Stated, aka, NotLindaGHill.

As I write this post, I am feeling even more awkward and nervous than usual. Writing on someone else’s blog is kinda like cookin in someone else’s kitchen.

Y’all, Linda told you I’d be an exciting guest-poster, and now I’m feelin a lot of pressure to be exciting, which is difficult under normal circumstances but especially since she didn’t leave any tequila here for me.

I think the best thing you could do to help me, the best way to comfort me in this strange time, would be to bring me tequila write about things that are awkward. ‘Awkward’ is your prompt. You can write about feeling awkward like me right now or the awkward silences we often find ourselves in, like staring at a blank page only sometimes that blank page is a person’s face, or even trying to fill the awkward silence — just make it awkward. Do your best to out-awkward me.

After you’ve written your Stream of Consciousness Saturday post, please link it here at this week’s prompt page and check to make sure it’s here in the comments so others can find it and see it. All are welcome to participate.

To make your post more visible, use the SoCS badge! Just paste it in your Saturday post so people browsing the reader will immediately know your post is stream of consciousness and/or pin it as a widget to your site to show you’re a participant. Wear it with pride!!

One-Liner Wednesday – Wait, the fridge doesn’t have spell-check?!

Found upon waking one morning last week:

img_20160910_083643

My grocery shopping skillz are up to par: spicey KD (Kraft Dinner) is awesome.

It took me a long time to find fridge-magnet letters, now it looks like I need a red pen for drawing squiggly lines.

Song-Lyric Sunday – Grieve, by Chachamaru

When I saw Helen’s prompt for this week was the Blues, my mind went directly to one of my favourite Bluesy songs, “Grieve,” by Chachamaru.

Yukihiro “Chachamaru” Fujimura was the reason I went to Japan for the first time, in October of 2005. He was playing lead guitar at the time with a singer named Gackt; I went to two of their concerts when I was there. After the one in Hiroshima, I gathered up my courage and asked one of the crew if I could meet Chacha. Since I wasn’t asking to meet the star attraction of the show, and I told him I’d traveled all the way from Canada just to see the concert, the nice man told me he’d see what he could do. He got on his radio and asked backstage if I could go back. The answer was no, unfortunately. I did, however, have my copy of Chacha’s only solo CD in my purse, so I asked if I could get it signed. My CD disappeared and as I was waiting, the man’s radio beeped and he asked me how to spell my name.

This is what I got back

img_20160925_144005

Basically, my CD cover met the man. I was thrilled. It remains, to this day, one of my most precious possessions.

I’m amazed I found “Grieve” on Youtube after all these years. It’s a fan-made video with pictures of Chacha and the audio of the song. Lyrics, translated to English, to follow.
P.S. Chacha, if you read this, please make another album! I’m still waiting! 😀

Grieve, from the album Air

Music by Fujimura Yukihiro
Lyrics by Nishida Masafumi

Staring at a person passing through
From a wet window
With a drop trickling down it
Holding back those tears in my misty eyes

Some day I’ll wear this far away dream out
Before I knew it, I remembered the lie

The days that the map we drew was ruined
In the rain are repeating

Alone and stricken with downpouring, subsided love
I begin my journey
I hold only to those memories of innocent times

The same wind is blowing on both of us
We go through the same nights

How I love you, oh darling…
Don’t you hear me calling

I’m searching for a person
That I can’t meet a second time
Everyone can hear the song I’m singing
I still don’t want anything
My answer is only the sound of rain

The same wind is blowing on both of us
We go through the same nights

How I love you, oh darling…
Don’t you hear me calling

I’m searching for a person
That I can’t meet a second time
Everyone can hear the song I’m singing
I still don’t want anything
My answer is only the sound of rain

I’m searching for a person
That I can’t meet a second time
Everyone can hear the song I’m singing
I still don’t want anything
My answer is…
