Nano Poblano Day 12: NaNoWhatever

I’m starting to think writing a novel would have been easier than this NaBloPoMo thing. Writing a post every day, especially when I’m being forced into it, is HARD! Writing a novel when I’m being forced into it, on the other hand, is a piece of cake as long as life doesn’t come along and bite me in the arse like it did during NaNo ’11.

Yep, NaNo ’11 was a doozy. I was going along strong and then suddenly everyone got sick. Alex, my youngest, was in the hospital in Kingston, which was miles away and so I figured I’d sleep there, save the drive home. Only I got woken up at two in the morning to find out my eldest, Fred, was puking up blood. What do you do?

I rushed home as soon as I’d talked to Alex’s doctor the next day–which was almost dinner time–and I don’t even remember what happened after that, ‘coz I got sick. At least I knew Alex was taken care of.

The manuscript that came out of that there NaNo ’11 took me another year to complete, as it turned out. Today I printed out all 627 pages of it–again–so I can give it what I hope is a second-last once-over before it goes out to my beta readers. That should take, oh, a week or so if all goes well.

And no one gets sick.

  1. OMG – this page is out of whack!!!

  2. Eh, don’t sweat it with the every day thing. Besides, you posted the one-liner. A post is a post. It’s all about challenges and discovering new blogs. I am just very, very glad I cleaned out my Reader list before this month!

  3. Good heavens…not enough to write a book, you have to be Supermother too…hang in there and I hope things improve on all fronts really soon!

    • Ah, ’tis my lot in life. πŸ˜‰
Everything worked out okay. Three years down the road (now) and I’m only dealing with stress… so far. πŸ˜›
Thanks so much for your well-wishes! πŸ˜€

  4. It’s not worth if it’s not hard, right, Linda G! You have Beta Readers!! That is so cool. I hope they give you great feedback on the hospital novel. I bet they do. You right like a son of a gun. πŸ™‚

  5. I know…writing should just flow out…no rules!

  6. Shit. Just read about the things making it hard for you to post. I have absolutely no excuse to not get mine done tonight.

  7. You made me laugh! I’m glad you posted, even if it was a little hard. πŸ˜€

  8. Oh no. I can’t read the comments on this background. 😦
Well I’m at 16k, which is a bit behind, because I like to get severe infections and spend time alternating between incoherent and in pain, you know how I do. Soooo…I’m trying to catch up and it’s not even mid-month! Makes me crazy! Don’t you remember how insane EvDaDaDec was? Or what about A-Z April? Good for writers, bad for all the non-writery aspects of our lives. Gotta go, Linda. Gotta get the bread outta the oven and rotate the wash — did you remember to check the mail? lol

    • Ugh, that’s so frustrating trying to catch up. I think that’s what gets me with this NaBlo thing… once the day is gone there’s no getting it back, so no catching up. You’ve got 24 hours to succeed or fail every friggin’ day!
…wait, the wash? I forgot the wash!! Gotta go! πŸ˜‰

  9. HUGE undertaking! Much admiration!….stay well πŸ˜‰

  10. Oh no. I hope that they both are okay. I’m with on the Nano challenge. It is hard! I’ve had to revert back to my wild-child memories just to have stories to tell. But, we can never run out of those right?

  11. Keep up the good work.
