I’m starting to think writing a novel would have been easier than this NaBloPoMo thing. Writing a post every day, especially when I’m being forced into it, is HARD! Writing a novel when I’m being forced into it, on the other hand, is a piece of cake as long as life doesn’t come along and bite me in the arse like it did during NaNo ’11.
Yep, NaNo ’11 was a doozy. I was going along strong and then suddenly everyone got sick. Alex, my youngest, was in the hospital in Kingston, which was miles away and so I figured I’d sleep there, save the drive home. Only I got woken up at two in the morning to find out my eldest, Fred, was puking up blood. What do you do?
I rushed home as soon as I’d talked to Alex’s doctor the next day–which was almost dinner time–and I don’t even remember what happened after that, ‘coz I got sick. At least I knew Alex was taken care of.
The manuscript that came out of that there NaNo ’11 took me another year to complete, as it turned out. Today I printed out all 627 pages of it–again–so I can give it what I hope is a second-last once-over before it goes out to my beta readers. That should take, oh, a week or so if all goes well.
And no one gets sick.

When Alex has croup I open a window to let the humidity in. It helps a bit.

Yeah – the dryness from the heating does not help hey.

Yip…but she also needs to stay warm somehow – this house is like 5 degrees centigrade inside without heaters and the fire. I put bowls of water around to try to keep the moisture in the air. (with a couple drops lavender and eucalyptus) – Catch 22 ey.

5 degrees?!? Don’t you have any heat?

Nope. No central heat. Just a fire and some heaters. Two are blowers. 2 are convection.(which are a bit less drying)
God help us when the snow comes.

I have the heat on AND I have his bedroom window open just a crack when he’s sick. But his room is nowhere near the thermostat, so it doesn’t make the heat come on more, it’s just a couple of degrees cooler in his room.
But I have a gas boiler… Best of luck to you my dear. I wish there was something I could do to help. 😦

Ah Linda, we figure out the plans as we go along hey 😉
We have a outside tank that takes oil. WHich we had before and found them terribly NOT cost effective. Plus the up front layout is HUGE. The house warms up fairly well and not too slowly, even though it is an old building (which HAS at least got double glazing – thank goodness!!)
So not all THAT bad. (just the drying thing) (not looking forward to electricity bill – but we can pay that off a bit slower right)

I had oil – it was costing me $800 every three weeks in the winter. And they weren’t even cold winters. 😛
Maybe you can try to keep your faces close to the window and your feet to the heat…? 😛

Eh, don’t sweat it with the every day thing. Besides, you posted the one-liner. A post is a post. It’s all about challenges and discovering new blogs. I am just very, very glad I cleaned out my Reader list before this month!

It’s not worth if it’s not hard, right, Linda G! You have Beta Readers!! That is so cool. I hope they give you great feedback on the hospital novel. I bet they do. You right like a son of a gun. 🙂

Oh no. I can’t read the comments on this background. 😦
Well I’m at 16k, which is a bit behind, because I like to get severe infections and spend time alternating between incoherent and in pain, you know how I do. Soooo…I’m trying to catch up and it’s not even mid-month! Makes me crazy! Don’t you remember how insane EvDaDaDec was? Or what about A-Z April? Good for writers, bad for all the non-writery aspects of our lives. Gotta go, Linda. Gotta get the bread outta the oven and rotate the wash — did you remember to check the mail? lol

Ugh, that’s so frustrating trying to catch up. I think that’s what gets me with this NaBlo thing… once the day is gone there’s no getting it back, so no catching up. You’ve got 24 hours to succeed or fail every friggin’ day!
…wait, the wash? I forgot the wash!! Gotta go! 😉

Oh no. I hope that they both are okay. I’m with on the Nano challenge. It is hard! I’ve had to revert back to my wild-child memories just to have stories to tell. But, we can never run out of those right?
