Have you ever seen so many cat pictures in your life as you’ve seen since Facebook came into being?
Of course not. They seem to be the world’s favourite animal now. When I was growing up I loved horses; I still do, I suppose. But they’re not all I think about the way I did before I had kids. I suppose my kids are my new horses… Yeah, stream of consciousness.
I still notice many little girls are saying horses are their favourite animal. But let’s face it, horses are something you’ve got to get off Facebook to spend time with, unlike cats. Horses don’t sit on your keyboard when you’re trying to type, so that’s a plus. And you can’t ride a cat. At least not a house cat. You could ride a lion, and you’d have something to hold onto. A mane. Hey, horses have manes. Did you know horses and cats have something in common? They both lay their ears back when they’re mad. They’ll both bite when you get them upset enough… but horses don’t scratch. They both need their nails trimmed though.
This is getting out of hand. Catapult me outta here.
This post is part of Stream of Consciousness Saturday. You can join in too!

Hahaha, I really wish I could say I like cats. But I don’t. Maybe I just haven’t found THE ONE yet. Lol.

Or maybe you just need one forced on you by one of your kids. 😛

I had one forced on me by someone and it didn’t turn out well, unfortunately. Lol

Cats, meh. Snooty bloody things with a superiority complex.
Give me a dog any day.

That could easily add up to 365 dogs a year! Your yard would be a minefield!

Cats and horses also have the Flehmen response in common, where they not only smell with their nose but also with their mouth. That’s why you see cats sitting with their mouths open sometimes.
I love cats…

Interesting to compare cats with horses. I admire horses but I am a bit skittish around them. I did have a bad fall once off a horse. I really like cats and have had them for pets. They can be very affectionate but maybe just not with everyone. They make very nice pets and companions. 🙂

Falling off is never much fun. It’s a long way down!
Of my son’s two cats, one is very lovable while the other wants nothing to do with me. He apparently snuggles up to my son though.

Cats can bond with just a few people. My daughter’s cat was very close with her and liked me. But when my daughter went away to school her cat became much closer to me. She did not like men so much.

I had a dog who didn’t like men. Maybe it’s the way they smell or something. 😛

That’s interesting. I always thought dogs liked everybody where I think of cats being more particular. I think of cats being like introverts who only like a few people at a time and dogs as extroverts who want to jump all over everyone. And I suspected our cat found men more intimidating.

Cats to me have minds of their own and as such they care little about you apart from you dishing out their next meal…

Yes, there are a lot of cat picture on FB, but there are more dog photos. Dogs rule. Puppy Cody say so.
(And if a dog is big enough, a little girls could, in fact, ride him – and the dog would let her do so!)

This is true! I used to own a St. Bernard who would occasionally allow kids to ride him. 🙂

Cats are great! I think it’s their independent, who-gives-a-shit, whatever attitude, that they all have that make them so “cat”-tivating. 🙂

Ha! That’s funny. 🙂 I suppose many people do like that about them. Makes you wonder what they’re thinking, doesn’t it?

Cats and horses jump the same way. They also run in the same rhythm. Now I don’t know if it’s a scientific fact, but having photographed both for decades, I see the similarity. Dogs have a totally different rhythm. I can never capture them properly. 🙂

Interesting – I didn’t know that. Galloping is of course one thing, but trotters (Standardbreds) are different than any other horse. I could never figure out how they pace like that without falling over. 😛
