#SoCS – Rice Krispies

I buy those mini ten-packs of cereal every couple of weeks for us to munch on if we run out of food before my once-a-week shopping trip. My son Chris usually eats them, all but the Rice Krispies, so I have about 8 boxes of them in the cupboard. I suppose they’re not sweet enough for him. He loves his Rice Krispie Squares, though.

Why do they call them squares? They’re rectangular.

I loved the little boxes of cereal when I was a kid. I used to open them along the tear lines and open the waxed paper inside and pour milk in and eat the cereal right out of the box. Do they still have the lines in the boxes to do that?

I’ll go check. Be right back.

I’m back. And no, you can’t cut the box open along the lines anymore. I suppose you could still do it yourself, but who knows if the package inside is milk-proof?

I’d have to try it to find out. But I’m not hungry right now.

I’m counting down the number of spoonsful of green tea ice cream I have to eat before I can open the chocolate peanut butter one. I’d say I have maybe a dozen spoonsful left. That’s some major self-control right there.

Proud of me? I am. Almost as proud as I would be if I hadn’t bought it at all. But there you go. Pobody’s nerfect.

So now I’m wondering how old I have to be to remember eating cereal and milk right out of the box.

Probably ancient.

  1. I also remember eating mini cereals from the box! I remember this from restaurants, even!
Rice Krispies is something I eat a lot of, in cereal version and in “rectangles.”

  2. I love rice crispies! Snap, crackle, pop! 😀

  3. I do remember those little cereal boxes to pour your milk into. We usually had them on Saturday mornings to eat while watching cartoons. My favorite was the Sugar Crisp ones. 🙂

  4. The Kel-Bol-Pac! No, I wouldn’t trust it, either…

  5. Definitely self-control to finish one flavor ice cream before starting another. We never do that!

  6. I thought that was such fun and yes, disappointing they don’t have the cutting lines anymore.  It’s probably self protection because someone sued them for a leaking box.  Seems to be the way of some fun things these days.  We used to take them camping and the kids loved them as a fun treat. They were more expensive but I bought them as a surprise.  They also loved picking out their own little box from the variety.  Thanks for the memory😀

  7. We loved eating the cereal out of the boxes. Seemed like such a daring adventure!

  8. I like Rice Krispies, but I put sugar on them! I would help you finish the green tea ice cream ~ in fact i prefer it to chocolate. Yes, i am weird 🤣

  9. I remember trying to make the little box-bowls. Sadly, that doesn’t help you in your quest to be not seen as old. But they must have only gotten rid of the lines lately.

  10. I had forgotten about the little cereal boxes. We only used them when camping. I never knew you could add milk to the box.

  11. A fun read Linda we have those boxes too, never knew you could of eaten out of the box! Mind you Mum would of gone mad if we had….Use a bowl she would of said! 💜💜💜

  12. Loved this post!! I remember pouring milk into those single serving boxes. Such a novelty to throw out the bowl we ate from, and to have one less dish to wash. It was such a big deal to have to do our own dish back then. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

  13. Oh, this was a fun stream. Loved those boxes for camping. By the way, I was feeling silly that I didn’t follow the full prompt. But now I don’t feel bad at all. LOL!

  14. Pobody’s nerfect!! Loved this! 😄

  15. Your Rice krispie treats would be square if you cut them square 😉
