282. Scenes from the Second Seat on the Right

Saturday, June 9th, 8:00pm
Drommen (and Hillary)

 

Drommen sits at the window. Hillary takes the seat beside him, holding the iPad he gave her.

Drommen: Hey there.

Hillary: Hi.

Drommen: Enjoying your iPad?

Hillary: Yeah, thanks again for that. It’s great. So you want to do something?

Drommen: Actually, I’ve got a date tonight.

Hillary stares for a few a seconds, then blinks back tears.

Drommen: Look, I need to be honest. I’m never going to change, and nobody’s going to make me.

Hillary: But I thought …

Drommen: I’m sorry if I gave you the wrong impression. I’d like to be friends if that’s okay.

Hillary: (stands and throws the iPad in his lap) FUCK YOU! You’re just an asshole like all the other guys I know. FUCK YOU!

Drommen: I’m sorry.

Hillary slaps his face and storms off the bus.

Drommen (and Hillary)

 

Drommen sits at the window. Hillary takes the seat beside him.

Hillary: Hey Jake!

Drommen: Hey, Jessica, how are you?

Hillary: Great! Tomorrow’s my nineteenth birthday.

Drommen: Wow. Well, happy birthday!

Hillary: (pulls a baggie part-way out of her pocket) Wanna celebrate?

Drommen: (frowns) I have to get home. My sister needs me.

Hillary: (puts baggie away) Oh.

Drommen: But thanks for the offer.

Hillary: Yeah, no problem.

Drommen: Do you have anything special planned for your birthday?

Hillary: Nah.

Drommen: That’s too bad.

Hillary: You gonna be around tomorrow?

Drommen: I don’t know. But if I am …

Hillary: (smiles) I’ll save you some just in case.

Drommen: I have to warn you, that stuff … does things to me.

Hillary: Like what?

Drommen: I’m afraid you’re about four hours too young for an answer to that question.

Hillary grins.

Amy-Sue and Billy

 

Amy-Sue: Nobody “gets” me.

Billy: I do.

Amy-Sue: How can you? I just moved here from Backwater-Hellville – I’ve practically never even seen a bus before…

Billy: But you’re the same as me inside.

Amy-Sue: …and you’re in the Geek Club.

Billy: I can quit.

Amy-Sue: What good would that do? (slumps in her seat) I’m never going to fit in.

Billy: (swallows hard) I wanna help.

Amy-Sue: How?

Billy: I can teach you stuff.

Amy-Sue: Yeah? Like what?

Billy: Like, how to play RPGs and stuff.

Amy-Sue: And make me a geek? That’s even worse!

Billy: (shrugs) Or I could quit.
