What To Do, Part 2

It’s been two days and I’m already going stir crazy, not having something to post daily on my blog. It’s habit-forming, damnit!

But there’s something else bugging me: whether or not to publish the Second Seat series.

If I turn it into a book to sell on Amazon (I’m leaning towards 99 cents and making it exclusive to ‘Zon so Prime members can get it for free), I’ll have to change some of the characters’ names. I can’t make money off Edward, Bella, and Alice, even though they’re really nothing like the Twilight characters. I’ll be sued to Forks and back. Whether or not I can get away with the ads that are referenced (Grey Poupon, anyone?) and Sylvester (ssthufferin’ ssthuckotash!), not to mention songs that are mentioned in a few episodes is also up in the air. I think most of them are vague enough, but I’d still need to consult a lawyer or take them out.

But the real question is, would anyone read them in the form of a 365-chapter book? I’m too close to the whole thing to see it clearly. Most of the episodes are only around 100 words, so it won’t be novel-length.

I just don’t know.

So here’s a poll. Let me know what you think.

If you have any other suggestions, please let me know. Ta!

#SoCS – ‘Round Here

‘Round here, this lateness thing seems to be getting more the norm than the exception.

I’ve been thinking all day though, about how to start this post. And every time I thought about writing “around” but with the apostrophe instead of the “a,” I thought about how much I actually enjoy writing in an old man’s voice.

I actually wondered if I secretly wish in the back of my mind, somewhere where my consciousness can’t see, that I could be an old man instead of an … old-ish woman.

I don’t feel old. Unless you count all the aches and pains that have become more the norm than the exception. There’s that phrase again.

I like normalcy. I used to wish I had excitement in my life. Now, not so much. I must be an old man at heart.

I do still want to travel. I love going places on my own … Though last time I went to Japan, I thought it might also be nice to take my eldest son next time. I know he’d leave me on my own to explore, and I know he’d be okay doing the same. So it would be kinda like going with someone, but without the responsibility of having to do half of what they do.

Do old men generally like their independence? Hmmm …

Well, I’m dropping off to sleep. Must be bed time.

But tomorrow, I should be around.

What to do?

It’s hard to believe there are only three more Second Seat on the Right episodes left. I’m not sure what I’m going to do with myself–or my blog–when it’s finished.

I suppose I’ll have to actually go outside once in a while to get some inspiration. Coz there ain’t much to inspire me in my living room. Oh sure, there’s the whole Internet thing, but there’s nothing quite like seeing a new perspective that you can’t find anywhere else.

I’ve considered bringing my entire fiction and poetry blog over here, one piece at a time. I have hundreds more posts. Six hundred more exactly, actually.

Anyway, enjoy the last three episodes. And thanks for reading.

One-Liner Wednesday – When you read it wrong every time

Whenever I see the words “Power Outage,” I wonder how anyone could get so angry over electricity.

If you would like to participate in this prompt, feel free to use the “One-Liner Wednesday” title in your post, and if you do, you can ping back here to help your blog get more exposure. To execute a pingback, just copy the URL in the address bar on this post, and paste it somewhere in the body of your post. Your link will show up in the comments below. Please ensure that the One-Liner Wednesday you’re pinging back to is this week’s! Otherwise, no one will likely see it but me.

NOTE: Pingbacks only work from WordPress sites. If you’re self-hosted or are participating from another host, like Blogger, please leave a link to your post in the comments below.

As with Stream of Consciousness Saturday (SoCS), if you see a pingback from someone else in my comment section, click and have a read. It’s bound to be short and sweet.

Unlike SoCS, this is not a prompt so there’s no need to stick to the same “theme.”

The rules that I’ve made for myself (but don’t always follow) for “One-Liner Wednesday” are:

1. Make it one sentence.

2. Try to make it either funny or inspirational.

3. Use our unique tag #1linerWeds.

4. Add our lovely new badge to your post for extra exposure!

5. Have fun!

#SoCS – Logical English

I’m a huge fan of logic. It might be my star sign (Aquarius) or it might be just good ol’ learnin’, but logic makes more sense to me than stuff like intuition.

Though I do trust my intuition a lot. But not when there’s logic to be had.

Then there are some things I’ve just learned to accept. There’s really no fighting things like the English language, and its refusal to conjugate, for instance, “specific” into “specifical” when “magic” is “magical” and, well, “logic” is “logical.”

So, I’ve had to memorize these illogical instances, as we do. Or we don’t if we never get good at spelling. I think one of the worst things invented is spellcheck. It, like modern checkout machines at cash registers has made us lazy. I’VE become a bit lazy. Imagine that! Illogical, if you ask me.

What’s most logical on my mind currently is getting this post posted. I keep losing my Internet connection, and I want to send it off before I go to bed. Maybe even while it’s still Saturday!

Hope everyone had a good one. 🙂

A fond farewell to our SoCS badge! I’ll miss that little stream. ❤

One-Liner Wednesday – Inspiration Blooms

Inspiration blooms like flowers on trees, plucked by artists lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time.

Summer Fun

Ah, summertime. At home 24/7 with a kid who’s currently screaming like he’s actually on the set of The Price Is Right and not sitting in front of the TV. So far, since camp finished, we’ve been to a Poutine Feast (the lobster poutine was to DIE for), we’ve been out for walks and to the grocery store. Coming up we have a movie, mini-golf, lunch at the mall, a trip to the library, and of course tonight there’s baseball.

So much fun!

Except life doesn’t stop for me. Call me a party pooper, but my stress level is calling me back to the computer to get stuff done. The book launch for The Magician’s Blood is this Friday (get it on pre-order for $2.99! The price goes up to $4.99 on Friday!), and the paperback cover has colour issues, so I need to get that sorted out. It’ll be a while before that’s ready, so if you’re waiting for the physical copy, sorry. :/ Hopefully next week.

I have stories to write, things to edit for other people … and a kid who just wants to have fun with his mom!!

I feel so guilty for not sharing his enthusiasm. I just keep telling myself to live in the moment. That’s all you can do, right?

Click the pic to get it before the price goes up!

#SoCS – Call

If I could call my dad, he’d be amazed that I was using a wireless phone, because he died in 1978. Or maybe he wouldn’t, if he’s really watching over me.

If I could call my dad, he’d say he wishes he could meet his grandkids. Though two of them are too big to dandle on his knee.

If I could call my dad, I think he’d be proud of me for continuing his love of telling stories.

If I could call my dad, he’d be happy that I kept my sense of humour, even through all the shit I’ve been through.

If I could call my dad, he might or might not think I’m doing enough for my mother. He may just acknowledge that I’ve got enough to do already.

If I could call my dad, I’d be grateful for one last chance to give him the opportunity to make me spit tea through my nose …

If I could call my dad, I’d tell him I’m doing my best.

If I could call my dad, I’d tell him I miss him.

So, about those prompts …

Do you remember a couple of months back I created a poll to see when the best time to do another month’s-worth of prompts might be? And it was decided August would be a good month? Well guess what?

I have the prompts all lined up and ready to go, and I know just how I’m going to organize it, but …

I really don’t think I’m going to have the time nor the energy to pull it off. My new book comes out on the 10th, and about a week after that we’ll be looking for a new SoCS badge. And all that on top of having the child home for three out of four and a half weeks.

So, how does October sound to you instead? Good?

Did you even remember that I was going to post prompts every day in August?

If not, just ignore this post. And you might get a surprise come October 1st. 😉

#SoCS – Gimme some skin!

Skin is an organ, right? Sure it is. (Looked it up because I was only 99% sure.) You know what else I looked up? The phrase “give me some skin.” That was exactly what I thought it was too. But I was surprised at how many “give me some …”s there are in the Urban Dictionary. Many surprised me. Some even include other organs! Look if you dare.

Give me some skin is such a friendly one, though. As long as you don’t mind sharing your organs. Of course, some people go much further and share their kidneys. Not both, of course. That would be fatal. Potentially. Still, you don’t see people going around saying “gimme some kidney …” *Checks Urban Dictionary OOh, if you click on the last one on the list, you get more. But no, there’s cabbage, but no kidney.

Then there’s the exchange of organs–an eye for an eye. That doesn’t make much sense, does it? Unless you jip someone out of an eye that has 20/20 vision when yours is less. Haha! Gotcha! But then you have the potential difficulty of having two eyes that don’t match in colour. How awkward! (I have one blue and one green … it’s really not that awkward. But you know, stream of consciousness and no editing …) I’m using a lot of ellipsis in this post. I don’t usually.

Anyhoo, lots to do. There are a couple of actual blog posts I’ve been meaning to write. *gasp! So much to do.
