One-Liner Wednesday – Love and Compassion

created at Canva.com

If you would like to participate in this prompt, feel free to use the “One-Liner Wednesday” title in your post, and if you do, you can ping back here to help your blog get more exposure. To execute a pingback, just copy the URL in the address bar on this post, and paste it somewhere in the body of your post. Your link will show up in the comments below. Please ensure that the One-Liner Wednesday you’re pinging back to is this week’s! Otherwise, no one will likely see it but me.

NOTE: Pingbacks only work from WordPress sites. If you’re self-hosted or are participating from another host, like Blogger, please leave a link to your post in the comments below.

As with Stream of Consciousness Saturday (SoCS), if you see a pingback from someone else in my comment section, click and have a read. It’s bound to be short and sweet.

Unlike SoCS, this is not a prompt so there’s no need to stick to the same “theme.”

The rules that I’ve made for myself (but don’t always follow) for “One-Liner Wednesday” are:

1. Make it one sentence.

2. Try to make it either funny or inspirational.

3. Use our unique tag #1linerWeds.

4. Add our lovely badge to your post for extra exposure!

5. Have fun!

Saturday, July 14th, 8:00 9:00pm
Hillary and Villem (and Drommen)

Hillary sits at the window, almost passed out, with her hand in Villem’s lap. Drommen boards the bus.

Drommen: (as he approaches) What the hell are you doing?

Villem: Nothin’ man. Just havin’ a little fun.

Drommen: Go have fun at the back of the bus.

Villem hesitates and Drommen draws back his fist. Villem moves and Drommen sits.

Hillary: Whatchu do that for?

Drommen: Because I care about you. You’re coming with me this time. No arguments.

Hillary: You gonna take care of me?

Drommen: Yes. Either me or my sister. Where are your parents?

Hillary: Don’t have none. ‘S just me.

Drommen: (puts his arm around her and helps her up) Not anymore.

Sunday, July 8th, 11:00am
Drommen and Phillipa

Phillipa: Why are we on the bus again?

Drommen: We’re going for a coffee.

Phillipa: I told you, I have coffee at home.

Drommen: Oh right.

Phillipa: You’re obsessing over that girl again, aren’t you?

Drommen: I’m not obsessing. I’m worried about her. I want to keep an eye on her.

Phillipa: (takes his hand) You can’t save the world, Jake.

Drommen: Maybe I can save my little part of it.

Phillipa: And then what? You go back to corrupting them with your little fetish?

Drommen shrugs.

Phillipa: Bring your little fetish home to me. She’s not on the bus today.

Drommen: I’ll come back to your place later.

Phillipa: I won’t be there later.

Drommen: Tomorrow then? Next weekend?

Phillipa: Now. Or you take your chances.

Drommen: I’ll take my chances.

Phillipa gets off the bus.

Note: Strong language.

Friday, June 29th 7:00pm
Hillary (and Drommen) (and Zoey)

Hillary is asleep in the window seat with drool running down her chin. Drommen takes the seat beside her.

Drommen: (shaking her) Hey, Jessica. Wake up.

Hillary stirs but doesn’t wake up.

Drommen: Jessica! It’s time to go home.

Hillary: (slapping at him weakly) Lemme alone.

Drommen: Come on. Don’t make me carry you off the bus.

Hillary: (kicks at him and mumbles louder) Lemme alone!

Drommen is shaking her when Zoey boards the bus.

Zoey: Leave her alone, asshole.

Drommen: She’s drunk. I just want to get her home.

Zoey: Get the fuck away from her!

Drommen: What the fuck’s your problem?

Zoey: You are! You became my problem the day you asked me to look at your dick. Now go away before I call the cops.

Drommen: I know where she lives. We’re friends.

Zoey: (scoffs) Yeah, I’m sure you are.

Drommen: Are you going to take care of her?

Zoey: Yes!

Drommen: Fine, then.

Drommen changes seats.

Zoey: (sits. To Hillary) Are you okay, honey?

Hillary: (mumbles) He’s not all that bad.

Tuesday, January 16th, 9:00pm
Dillon (and Zoey)

Dillon sits at the window. Zoey takes the seat beside him.

Zoey: Hey. Aren’t you a bit young to be on the bus alone at this time at night?

Dillon: (stares at her for a moment) My mom’s sick. She went to the hospital.

Zoey: Oh no.

Dillon: So I have to go home to my step-dad. He’s drunk.

Zoey: Are you going to be okay?

Dillon shrugs.

Zoey: Is there a friend you could stay with instead?

Dillon: Yeah. But he lives the other way.

Zoey: Do you know his number? (pulls cell phone from pocket) I could call him.

Dillon: I’ll be okay.

Zoey: Well, can I give you some money to take another bus?

Dillon: (hesitates) Sh … sure.

Zoey: (hands him $3 in coins) Are you sure you’ll be okay?

Dillon: (shrugs) Yeah. Thanks.

Zoey: My stop’s coming up. Do you want to come with me to talk to the bus driver? He can make sure you get where you want to go.

Dillon: Sure.

They get up together.

Thursday, January 4th, 3:00pm
Drommen and Francine

Francine: Why are you so pissed off at me?

Drommen: (stares at her silently for a moment) I’m picking you up from the hospital and you’re insisting on going back to that hovel you live in. That’s why. Did I not say I’d take care of you?

Francine: I don’t want to be a burden.

Drommen: People you love are never a burden.

Francine: Fine. I’ll move in with you. Is that what you want?

Drommen: Yes.

Francine: (takes his hand) I love you too.

Francine: And what, have you look after me?

Drommen: Of course. You know I’ll do anything for you.

Francine: I can’t let you do that. I’ll just stay put.

Drommen: Well, at least promise me you’ll look for something else. I can tell you’re getting stressed out.

Francine: (sighs) You’re right. I look around.

Drommen takes her hand and pats it.
