#SoCS – What day is it anyway?

A year later, and I’m still asking myself that question almost every morning when I wake up. The only reason I bother wondering? I need to know whether Alex is expected at virtual school. For me, every day is the same. Work. I do it seven days a week, most days from the time I finish breakfast ’til the time I go to bed. Minus time off for walks, interruptions from the kids, and to eat. Oh, and housework. I do that occasionally, too.

Day in, day out.

My consolation? My bright spot in the world. Writing books people enjoy, doing a good job when I edit and making my clients happy, and sending out prompts. Because aside from looking after my kids and making sure they’re as content as they can be, from this tiny room at this small computer it seems I can still make a difference in the world, and that is a truly great thing.

It constantly amazes me the reach we have. And if we choose to use it wisely, we can make a positive change in the world. Even when we’re stuck inside.

I’d like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all the people who have read my blog and participated in my prompts over the past year. I feel like I don’t express my appreciation enough, but I really do appreciate it. Because without you all, I’d be prompting the void. And the void doesn’t answer back. I might even go as far as to say it a-voids it. (Haha! Yes, I’m tired. But I still got it.)

What was I saying?

Oh yes.

Thank you. From the bottom of my heart. ❤

One-Liner Wednesday – Thank you

More than one line this week.

Dear You,

Thank you for supporting me. For reading my fiction and my ramblings. And for giving me encouragement when I need it most.

Thank you. Yes, you. The one reading this note.

With love & magic

Linda

If you would like to participate in this prompt, feel free to use the “One-Liner Wednesday” title in your post, and if you do, you can ping back here to help your blog get more exposure. To execute a pingback, just copy the URL in the address bar on this post, and paste it somewhere in the body of your post. Your link will show up in the comments below. Please ensure that the One-Liner Wednesday you’re pinging back to is this week’s! Otherwise, no one will likely see it but me.

NOTE: Pingbacks only work from WordPress sites. If you’re self-hosted or are participating from another host, like Blogger, please leave a link to your post in the comments below.

As with Stream of Consciousness Saturday (SoCS), if you see a pingback from someone else in my comment section, click and have a read. It’s bound to be short and sweet.

Unlike SoCS, this is not a prompt so there’s no need to stick to the same “theme.”

The rules that I’ve made for myself (but don’t always follow) for “One-Liner Wednesday” are:

1. Make it one sentence.

2. Try to make it either funny or inspirational.

3. Use our unique tag #1linerWeds.

4. Add our lovely new badge to your post for extra exposure!

5. Have fun!

85. Scenes from the Second Seat on the Right

Note: Adult theme

Friday, November 24th, 9:00pm
Drommen (and Holly) (and Hillary)

Drommen sits at the window. Holly takes the seat beside him.

Drommen: Hey!

Holly: Hi!

Drommen: How are you? You look cheerier than the last time I saw you.

Holly: I’m much better. I don’t know what you did, but that guy with the fangs laid off.

Drommen: (smiles) Great!

Holly: And I got my own place for me an’ my baby (pats her growing stomach) so we’re all good.

Drommen: That’s wonderful.

Holly: Thanks again for your help. I don’t know if I coulda done it without you.

Drommen: You’re welcome.

Holly: I’d like to return the favour somehow … (bats eyelashes)

Drommen regards her silently.

Holly: (rubs his knee) Whadda ya say?

Drommen: (grins) Well now that you mention it … (reaches into his coat for his fly and sees Hillary board the bus. The smile leaves his face)

Holly: What? Did you want to show me something?

Drommen waves to Hillary, who is waving to him.

Holly: Friend of yours?

Drommen: Can I take a rain check?

Holly: (looking annoyed) She must be special.

Drommen:  She’s just a nice girl.

Holly: And I’m not?

Holly moves to another seat in a huff. Hillary sits beside Drommen.

Hillary: Who was that?

Drommen: A missed opportunity.

Hillary stares at him.

Drommen: (smiling) But I’m happy to see you.

26. Scenes from the Second Seat on the Right

Tuesday, September 26th, 1:00pm
Drommen (and Bella)

Drommen sits at the window. Bella takes the seat beside him.

Bella: Hey!

Drommen: Oh, hello.

Bella: I wanted to thank you again for walking us home the other night.

Drommen: You’re welcome. I haven’t seen your strange friend on the bus since.

Bella: I haven’t seen him either, thank God. There are some real weirdos in this town.

Drommen: I suppose there are.

Bella: So, you take the bus a lot?

Drommen: Every day.

Bella: Would you like to go for a coffee sometime? My treat.

Drommen: Thank you, but I’m afraid you might find out I’m another one of those weirdos in town.

Bella frowns, confused.

Drommen: But when you’re a little older, I’d be pleased to have you join me for a bus ride. (smiles) My treat.

This Was Fun

In exchange for hosting #JusJoJan for a few days, Linda offered the opportunity to guest post on her blog. At first, I thought: “what a great way to break my New Year’s promise to only blog 4 times a week.” You see, I did include the proviso: “…plus the occasional re-blog.” I could scrawl 1,000 words over here, re-blog it and still be in compliance.

I wouldn’t do that to Linda.

In fact, all I want to say is that hosting #JusJoJan was fun, educational and my pleasure. What? Were you thinking that “all I want to say” meant I was only going to say one thing? Seriously? This is Dan, not Linda writing.

It was my pleasure because Linda does a lot for me as a blogger. I always know that if I’m stuck for an idea for a Saturday post, I can turn to her Friday Stream of Consciousness Saturday prompt. Even if I have an idea, I have the challenge of approaching it in SoC style. I can almost hear my editor saying: “you could always skip a day…”

Linda is also very understanding about my, ahem, liberal interpretation of what constitutes “one line” on Wednesdays.

Hosting was educational, because, although I have always appreciated her prompts, I had no idea how much work is involved. A successful promptster has pingbacks and comments up the…whaaaaa…t was I saying? I’m not complaining, but after three days of attempting to monitor the flow here, I am even more grateful to Linda and the other (you know who you are) people running prompts and blog-hops.

Most importantly, it was fun to meet a bunch of new bloggers and to catch a few of my regular writers under a new light. I enjoyed seeing the interesting-humorous-serious-sideways-twisted-artistic ways in which people can approach a single word. You guys rock!

Thanks for supporting me during my three days at the wheel. Good luck with the rest of #JusJoJan – as Linda would say – Enjoy!

SoC’S Socks – #SoCS

I had an entire laundry basket full of odd socks. Can you imagine? Only a few of them matched. And I didn’t even have a dryer for them to get sucked into oblivion into! So I threw them all out except I didn’t have any bag tags. Here where I live it costs $2.50 to throw out a bag of garbage – you have to buy tags to stick to your bags. So my garbage bag of socks was sitting around the house when I got this guy

CAM01235

Winston, sleeping on his back

and of course he found them. Two have been adopted by the pup.

So this is the first time I’ve been online (apart from a few minutes yesterday) since Thursday. And then it was only for a couple of minutes too. It’s been a crazy, mixed up Christmas this year with dinner happening (the big dinner that is) on Christmas Eve and not much sleep due to the festivities. But it’s been fun. I’m thankful for SoCS. It’s made me get on the computer long enough to say thank you… and that’s really what I want to do. Thank you to each and every one of you who have joined in, even once. I appreciate this community on WordPress more than I can express. You have kept me sane more times than I can count.

I hope everyone has had a happy holiday. Cheers to another year of SoCS!

I reached a milestone today!

The more you blog the longer it takes to get from point to point, but today I hit a milestone I’ve been working at for a while. Today, I made it to 100,000 views. 🙂

I’ve learned a lot over these past years of blogging. Most of all I’ve found that there are many wonderful people in this WordPress community who experience the same joys and the same tribulations as I do on a day to day basis. I’ve made friends – I’ve even met five of you in person! I hope to be here for a good long time and to meet a whole heck of a lot more of you!

And so I’d like to say thank you to all of the people who clicked on my posts in the past two years and ten months. And to the ones who visited today for the first time, no thanks to you… but thanks for helping me get to 200K! 😀

Cheers!

Not including my own post, we had a record number of participants yesterday for Stream of Consciousness Saturday! I’d like to say thank you once again to all who took part, as well as everyone who enjoyed reading the posts. As always, my main goal for hosting prompts is to help everyone build their community of bloggers.

So if you discovered a new, awesome blog, good for you! I know I’ve found many through the course of this weekly event. And if you’ve also gained followers then that’s wonderful too. Congratulations!
