214. Scenes from the Second Seat on the Right

Monday, April 2nd, 8:00pm
Robert and Donald

Donald: (rubs face) Ugh. I’m going to hate Easter from now on.

Robert: Well, it had to be done.

Donald: I know. (pats Robert’s knee) Thanks again for coming with me.

Robert: I know what it’s like to come out.

Donald: Did you see the look on my dad’s face?

Robert: (nods) Same as the one on mine.

They sit in silence for a moment.

Donald: I’ll move out by the end of next week.

Robert: That’s a great place you guys found. I’m happy for you.

Donald: Thanks. Too bad about Blaine.

Robert: (flicks hand) It was never meant to last.

Donald nods.

Robert: I’m gonna miss you, you know.

Donald: Yeah, me too.

165. Scenes from the Second Seat on the Right

Monday, February 12th, 5:00pm
Robert and Donald

Donald: So, what are we doing for Valentine’s Day?

Robert: Oh I don’t know.

Donald: I guess we should do something.

Robert: We don’t have to do anything.

Donald: We don’t?

Robert: Well, not together at least.

Donald: What are you suggesting?

Robert: I was thinking about going out with a friend.

Donald: A friend friend? Or …

Robert: Not … necessarily.

Donald: You mean you have a new lover?

Robert: I … might.

Donald: Huh.

Robert: You’re not upset, are you?

Donald: Not … well, not too upset. You could have told me though.

Robert: So what, you could fire me?

Donald: I’d never do that!

Robert: Pfft. Sure.

Donald: I wouldn’t! And anyway, I have a new boyfriend. Take that!

Robert: You do?

Donald: Yes. We’ve been seeing each other for weeks.

Robert: Then why are you still living on my couch?

Donald: Because I didn’t want to upset you!

Robert laughs.

Donald: What are you laughing about?

Robert: Just … nothing.

Donald: Huh. So you want to double date on Wednesday?

Robert: May as well. But you won’t be coming back to my place after.

Donald: Why not?

Robert: Don’t you think that would be a bit awkward?

Donald: Well I can’t go back to his place. He lives with his mother.

Robert: (slumps in his seat) There goes Valentine’s Day.

130. Scenes from the Second Seat on the Right

Monday, January 8th, 7:00pm
Donald and Spencer

Spencer: Why don’t you just move out?

Donald: Robert needs me. I can’t just abandon him now.

Spencer: (takes Donald’s hand) I think he’ll understand.

Donald: I only wish. But he’s been so pathetic lately. He even brought this guy home to make me believe he wasn’t still in love with me.

Spencer: There’s a lot to love.

Donald: I’ll break the news soon. Promise.

Spencer: And then?

Donald: And then we can live happily ever after, of course.

120. Scenes from the Second Seat on the Right

Note: Adult theme

Friday, December 29th, 5:00pm
Robert and Ivan

Robert: Donald should be out looking for a place to live, but if he’s home, you and I are just friends.

Ivan: So, why are we going to your place anyway, instead of just going out for dinner?

Robert: He’s gotta know that I’m going to bring guys home.

Ivan: I don’t know why you don’t just tell him to get the hell out.

Robert: I can’t. He might fire me.

Ivan: He can’t do that.

Robert: Maybe not. But I don’t want to take a chance.

Ivan: So instead, you’re flaunting me in front of him?

Robert: I’m hoping he’ll get the hint.

Ivan: You mean, without actually coming out and telling him you’ve got a new boyfriend.

Robert: Right.

Ivan: (shakes head) Remind me never to have an affair with my boss.

Robert: (frowns) Remind me that it’s a bad idea to sleep with an unstable boss just to get a promotion.

Note: Adult theme

Wednesday, December 6th, 6:00pm
Robert and Donald

Robert: It’s time.

Donald: For what?

Robert: For you to get off my couch. You’re going to have to make a decision.

Donald: Between what?

Robert: Either move into my room or get the hell out. I haven’t gotten laid in more than two weeks.

Donald: (sighs) What will everyone at work think?

Robert: They’re already talking. They know we go home together every night.

Donald: (straightens and stares at him) You mean they know we’ve … coupled?

Robert: (laughs) Coupled?

Donald: You know what I mean.

Robert: If by a couple of blow jobs …

Donald: SHHH!

Robert: (crossing his arms) You’re not ready. I think you should find another place to stay.

Donald: Hmph. And where do you propose I go?

Robert: Go find yourself a nice girl.

76. Scenes from the Second Seat on the Right

Note: Adult theme

Wednesday, November 15th, 6:00pm
Donald and Robert

Robert: So what now? You can’t live on the street.

Donald: I’ll just have to move in with you.

Robert: (raises eyebrows) I beg your pardon?

Donald: You’re the one who got me into this mess in the first place. It’s the least you can do.

Robert: If I remember correctly, it was you who came on to me.

Donald: Well I wouldn’t have if you weren’t gay. Now I’m gay too.

Robert: I didn’t make you gay.

Donald: Didn’t you?

Robert: NO!

Donald: So you’re not going to let me move in with you?

Robert: NO!

Donald: Fine. Then you’re fired.

Robert: You can’t fire me because I won’t let your sorry ass move in with me!

Donald: Try me.

Robert: Okay then. Fire me and I go to YOUR boss and tell him you’ve been blowing me every chance you get.

Donald: You wouldn’t!

Robert: Damned right I would. And you know what the school board is going to think of that, Mr. Principal!

Donald snorts and crosses his arms over his chest.

Robert: Look, you can stay with me for a couple of days until you find a place.

Donald: (smiles) Thanks.

Robert: You can sleep on the couch.

74. Scenes from the Second Seat on the Right

Note: Adult theme

Monday, November 13th, 7:00pm
Villem (and Andrea, Zoey, Donald, and Hillary)

Villem sits at the window. Andrea takes the seat beside him.

Villem: Afternoon.

Andrea: Good afternoon, what’s up?

Villem: Me. (exposes his penis)

Andrea: Ew! Ew! Ew! What is it with guys these days?

Andrea moves to another seat. Several stops later Zoey sits beside Villem.

Villem: Hey.

Zoey: Hey.

Villem: Look at this. (exposes himself)

Zoey: (stands and lifts her foot, then puts it back down) Oh what’s the use?

Zoey moves to another seat. Several stops later Donald sits beside Villem.

Villem: Nice evening.

Donald: Not really. I’m depressed.

Villem: Why’s that?

Donald: My wife just left me for another woman.

Villem: Another woman? You mean, you’re a woman?

Donald: (sighs) No, but apparently I’m gay too.

Villem: (smiles) Have I got a treat for you! (exposes his penis)

Donald: (stares for a moment) Nope. Does nothing for me. (sighs) This is so confusing.

Several stops later Donald gets off the bus, and Hillary sits beside Villem.

Villem: Well, hello there!

Hillary: (flatly) Hi.

Villem: I’d like to introduce you to Willie. (exposes his penis)

Hillary: Seriously? Is that all you got? (laughs hysterically)

Villem excuses himself and gets off the bus.

55. Scenes from the Second Seat on the Right

Wednesday, October 25th, 7:00pm
Robert and Donald

Robert: So, the guy jumped you when you got off the bus. And it was completely unprovoked?

Donald: Totally. But he didn’t jump me as soon as I got off. He followed me for a while.

Robert: And when he jumped you he tried to …

Donald: … bite my neck. Yeah. (grabs the collar of his jacket and tries to look at it) I think I’ve still got sparkles on my collar.

Robert: (takes a close look) Hm … Wouldn’t want your wife to see that. She might think you’re having an affair with a vampire. (smiles widely)

Donald: (frowns) Yeah.

Robert: Did he leave any scars?

Donald: Only a few emotional ones. He kept telling me he’s been watching me sleep and calling me Bella.

Robert: Creepy. So, d’you want to go have a drink before we go back to my place? I can help you with those emotional scars.

Donald: I could use a drink.

Robert: And then …

Donald: Just don’t call me Bella.

53. Scenes from the Second Seat on the Right

Monday, October 23rd, 5:00pm
Donald (and Andrea)

Donald sits in the aisle seat. Andrea approaches.

Andrea: Do you mind?

Donald: Oh! No. (shifts over to window seat)

Andrea: (sitting down) Bus is pretty crowded.

Donald: Yes.

Andrea: You just noticed?

Donald: I beg your pardon?

Andrea: Just when the bus is crowded it makes sense to leave any open seats available, doesn’t it?

Donald: I supp …

Andrea: I mean, it’s just common sense. It’s rude to keep two seats all to yourself when there’s so many people on the bus.

Donald: I was waiting for someone.

Andrea: (turns her head to the left and right) Who?

Donald: A … another man.

Andrea: A particular “other man”? Or just “another man”? Are you, like, disappointed that a woman sat beside you?

Donald: (looks her up and down) Yes. And in particular, you.

Andrea is speechless, mouth hanging open.

Donald: You’re rude and distasteful. I’d even go as far as to say that it’s women like you who make men like me—straight men, that is—wonder what it is we see in women at all.

Andrea: Well, I never!

Donald: (raises voice) Then it’s about damned time.

Donald steps over her and stands in the aisle.

Donald: (yelling) And for the record, I was waiting for a particular man, not just another man. One who’s much more tasty– (shakes his head) tasteful than you!

Donald gets off the bus to a round of applause.

49. Scenes from the Second Seat on the Right

Note: Adult theme.

Thursday, October 19th, 6:00pm
Drommen (and Donald)

Drommen sits at the window. Donald takes the seat beside him.

Donald: Hi.

Drommen: Hello.

Donald: Can I ask you a personal question?

Drommen: I suppose.

Donald: If a guy likes mostly women but there’s just one guy that he’s attracted to, do you think that makes him gay?

Drommen: There’s nothing wrong with attraction. It’s what you do with it.

Donald: Okay, so say this guy is attracted to this other guy and they actually sleep together a couple of times. Does that make him gay?

Drommen observes Donald silently.

Donald: I’m asking for a friend. Of course.

Drommen: Of course.

Donald: So do you think my friend is gay?

Drommen: And he’s attracted to girls?

Donald: Yeah.

Drommen: Maybe he’s bisexual.

Donald: Hmm … Maybe.

Drommen looks out the window.

Donald: Hey, can I ask you something else?

Drommen: Sure.

Donald: Do you mind if I masturbate?

Drommen stares at him wide-eyed.

Donald: Just as an experiment. To see if, you know, I get excited sitting beside another guy.

Drommen: (still wide-eyed) I thought it was your friend.

Donald: IT IS! The experiment is for him.

Drommen: I don’t know if I feel comfortable with that. But there’s a guy who rides the bus once in a while. You could ask him.

Donald: Really? What does he look like?

Drommen: You can’t miss him. He sparkles and wears fake fangs.
